Is my Android device unlocked or locked by my provider?
A carrier-locked Android device (also called "SIM-locked") restricts you to using only SIM cards/eSIM profiles from your original mobile provider. Here's how to check your device status:
Check Lock Status in 4 Steps:
- Open Settings
- Navigate to General
- Select About Phone
- Look for Network Provider Lock
You'll see either:
✓ "NO SIM restrictions" = Unlocked
✗ "SIM restricted" = Locked
If Your Device is Locked:
- Contact your original carrier
- Provide IMEI (find via *#06# dialer code)
- Request device unlock (may require contract fulfillment)
After unlocking, you can use any physical SIM or global eSIM profiles from eSIMania.
Note: Some Android models have eSIM hardware disabled regionally. Check eSIM compatibility guide or contact your device manufacturer.
